Hi
I want to install a tank heater on my f150, it has a 300 straight six cylindar for a engine. I need to know which heater hose is the return hose in it.

Disconnect both heater hoses from the heater core start it up and observe the hose that has pressure on it.

Yep, that is the best way to see which way the coolant will flow, but I can tell you the hose closest to the water pump is usually the output.
