1988 Ford F-150 transmission standard

My 5spd transmission lost first and second gear. I was told the fork can wear and spread. Can I fix the old fork and repair it myself? Thanks

That can be the problem. Does it still feel like it is shifting into 1 and 2nd? Also, as far as you doing it, it isn't a real easy job. If you have mechanical ability and a good trans manual, I would say yes. However, if you are unsure of yourself, you may want to have a trans tech do it. At least it is a 2wd. It will be much easier to get the trans out.

No it doesn, t feel like its sifting any thing at all. Does the trans have to come all the way out or can I just lower it and take the fork out the top
