Transmission problem
1988 Ford F150 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual

was driveing down road went to downshift and the shift would not come out of third gear i hold in clutch at a standstill it stays running let t out it stalls like it should just cant get it to shift out of gear

Will it shift with the engine off?

If it doesn't shift to 5th gear even with the engine off, either there is a linkage problem or there are internal transmission problems.

Have you checked the linkage?
