Electrical problem

When adding an accessorie that will only pull 3 AMPS, can you pull power off a fuse rated at a higher AMP, such as a 15 or 20 amp in the fuse box or do you have to install a 3 Amp fuse as you come off that circuit?
Thanks for your help. Your web-site is excellant.

You can do that; however, the item you install will not blow a fuse until it draws beyond the 15 or 20 amp fuse you selected. What I would recommend is this. Run power from one of the fuses you mentioned, but place an inline fuse between the power source and the accessory. That way, if something happens to the accessory, it will blow the fuse quickly before too much damage occurs to the accessory and it could prevent a fire.

You can purchase inline fuses at any parts store.

If you have other questions, let me know.
