rattling noise in motor

I took my 99 Ford Explorer in to be fixed. There is approximately 135,000 miles on the motor. The codes were showing a throttle sensor and a knock sensor. When they went to replace the sensors they said they heard a rattle in the passenger side of the motor. They thought it it was either the motor bearings or the valves. I stalled the car in high water back in July of the year (07). There was water in the oil but that was taken care of and dried out. The car repair place said it wasn't from the flooding it but from the motor being just old. Does it sound like I need a new motor and how much would it cost to fix?

I would not bet on the fact the water didn't damage the engine...My recomendation is buy a newer car this one will nickle and dime you! After the engine is replaced! I don't see getting an engine install for less than 2000.00 today.

I got the car back from the mechanics who didn't fix anything but told me to go to a motor shop. They said they checked the wires going to or from the sensors that were showing on the diagnostics and all the wires tested good. So, they tightened everything back up and gave it back to me. Since I have had it back it has been running perfectly. No more stalling at all. I even tried making it stall by doing the things that I knew made it stall before. It hasn't even stuttered! Could it have been that the wires were just loose or do you think the stalling will eventually come back? Could they have heard something rattling that really didn't mean anything?

What it all really means is you got real lucky...wires got wet and have dried out by now, as far as the stalling, if the PCM isn't getting good signals from the sensors, it does not work well! The engine, you say the shop told you to take it to a motor rebuilder?
Is it smoking, or noisy?

No, there is no smoke and I personally don't hear any noise. They just told me they heard it. Oh, and the check engine light is off too. I guess I was just blessed.
