Engine idles to fast

I have a 2000 ford explorer sport.1000.00 miles, 6 cyl. When I start it, the explorer idles at 2000 RPM's, and never seems to idle down unless I put it in drive? What could be causing this?

Check your IAC out. IAC (idle air control) it is what sets the idle for the vehicle.
