2007 Ford Explorer Loud Noise

As I drive my explorer when it is between 40 and 50 mph it sounds like the engine is having to rev really hard. Almost like a loud fan. At the same time the temperature reading in the car jumps and then goes right back down after it shifts to the next gear.

This sounds as if the car is hanging in 1st or 2nd gear far to long, then having a hight sped up shift, i would get the transmission checked by a transmission specialist as they will have all the equipment to diagnose this problem correctly.
