I have an 06 Ford Explorer-Eddie Bauer.
Trouble started when I got gas and the guy didn't put the cap on right. The gas cap warning light was on. I redid it 3 times before it finally shut off. The next day the temperature pegged and that warning light came on for about 10 seconds then returned to normal.
I took it into the dealer and they said that it was probably due to the gas cap and the system needed to reset itself. It has since done the temp thing 3 more times in the last three weeks.

The dealer said without a light on they couldnt diagnose it.
Anyone have a suggestion to what it may be? Thanks.

Honestly, I don't think the two are related. Take it to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer and reset it. If they tell you they can't because the light isn't on, ask they to please try. If they get no code, ask them to try to reset it.

Let me know if that helps. Other than that, you could disconnect the battery for about an hour. It may reset the computer, but because it's a newer vehicle, it still may require a scanner to do it.

Let me know.
