2005 Ford Explorer 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic

my cruise does not work anymore. it worked off and on for a while but now it doesn't work at all. what do you think it may be?

cruise control is cotrolled by the PCM if it is not working, have the PCM read to retrieve any fault codes this should pinpoit where the actual fault lies ?
