I think it is problibly caused by a short in the wiring but o just want to see what a expert says. I habe a gas gauge and a message think on the dash that let's me know how many miles I can go before its empty. It was fine. But then after my car flashed gas cap on the message center and I replace the cap the gauges quit working and its just lines on the meassage center. But when I reset the computer it works for about 30 to 45 seconds and I can have a full tank but it says I have 8 miles till empty.

That is a computer issue. It sounds like it may deal with the body control module (BCM).
