Noises problem
2004 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic <66000miles

When my vehicle was started this morning it started making a loud thumping noise. My husband checked all engine areas he could think of. When the heat is turned on, it gets louder & quicker, same when the turn signal comes on. I turned the engine off & then turned they key to where only the electrical systems came on & the thumping started again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

08Apr09 update - Thumping stays on when fan is off, but will stop when the temp control is turned to cold. When fan is turned on at cold temp setting, no thumping. No heat output.

Is it possible that something has gotten into the blower motor box?

Don't believe it's a problem w/ the blower motor because thumping stays on when fan is off, but will stop when the temp control is turned to cold. When fan is turned on at cold temp setting, no thumping. No heat output.

I've updated my post w/ the additional info. Thanks for giving me somewhere else to look :) If that could still be the problem, please let me know ( I just replaced the blower motor last Summer.)

The only other thing I can think of is a blender door sticking and banging open and closed when heat is needed. When you turn heat off, it isn't trying to open. Does the sound seem to come from under the dash area?

This is an interesting question and not an easy one to answer without hearing or being there to locate.
