We were on a trip and didn't close the gas cap completely and the light came on - we stopped when we could and correctly tightened the cap but the light has stayed on - How can I get it to go off???

If thats all it was, it will go out after the required drive cycles have been met, I would get the codes read and not assume that's what it is! Autozone reads them for free.
