At highway speeds for about 3 months now, I've noticed a shimmy in the front end. So, I know I need to have my tires re-balanced. But, since the last snow storm that we had (mid March) I've noticed that if it goes into 4-high from 4-auto that it shakes HARD! Almost as if I've only got one lug nut secured and the rest are loose. Problem not dependent on speed or driving style. If I manually put the truck into 4-high the problem is replicated.

I've recently replaced the front left C-V joint because of a cracked boot. I've also replaced the front drive shaft's u-joint. The problem was present before these repairs, and is still present.

Transfer case? I crawled up under there and noticed that the underside of the transfer case is nice and shiny (rather than covered with road-dirt, grime, gunk, etc) and had this thin sheen of transmission fluid on it.

If the gasket has gone bad, and the fluid is leaking... is this a repair-able problem... or am I just out the money ($1250) for a new transfer case? Can the gasket be replaced?

Thanks!

The gasket can be replaced. However, I doubt the leak is causing the problem unless it is empty.
