I have 03 Explorer I just got the oil changed and they told me that my differential was leaking. I have been hearing a howling noise from rear end when i'm at cruising speed when i let of accelerater it stops. Will changing the gear oil fix that?

Try this first. While driving, safely turn left and right. Does it change the sound?

Also, did they at least refill the differential for you?
