2002 Ford Explorer transmission

at 50k miles i had to have some transmission work and bearings replaced in the rear end. i understood this to be a common problem with 02 explorers. my question is , can i expect to have the same expence at 100k miles or did ford realize the problem and repair with better parts when i had it done the 1st time. a ford dealer did my repairs at 50k at my expence..

The concern with the trans was because Ford inadvertantly put the wrong fluid in the trans on the assembly line. There was a recall to have additives put into the trans to correct this oversight. However, Ford realized that for some of the vehicles it was too late and damage had already been done. Fortunatly the most common failure was the solenoid pack assembly, but I have had to overhaul a few transmissions, but those were because the customer chose to continue driving the vehicle when they knew it had a problem. As for your trans, if you are not currently experiencing any problems, with regular service, you should not have any concerns. The rear differential was also a Ford oversight. they tried to use a shim technique that was new. It didn't work. My statement for this is a little different. If you don't have any issues within the next six months, you probably won't. Just remember to also service the differential fluid as outlined in your owners manual.
