2002 Ford Explorer Problem opening my hood

My hood isn't popping open when I pull on the handle. I think that it is just a problem with the cable between the release and the the latch. Roughly how much would this cost to fix and is this a common problem among explorers?

Try this first... have a helper pull the release while you tap on the hood over the latch assembly. Somethimes they need luberication and don't work properly.
