2002 Ford Explorer V8 Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 76000 miles

about a week ago the "low oil pressure" warning popped up on my computer screen. At the same time, the oil dial goes from high to low very fast. In about a 10 minute drive, it happened 33 times. I took it to a shop, they replaced the oil sending unit and I picked it up. About an hour later, same problem. Took it back to the shop, they sent it to a speedometer shop to tear apart the cluster and couldn't find a problem. 4 days later I picked it up and everything has been fine till tonight. It happened once again.
at this point, they said to take it to the dealer and have them check it out. I can see that being very expensive.
any ideas?

Has anyone actually monitored the oil pressure? You might want to install a real gauge that reads real pressure by replacing the sender and adding the small oil tube right to the new gauge, this will give accurate readings, not real expensive!

They did hook up and oil gauge and everything is a-okay. I called the shop and they arent willing to give me my $ back! They never fixed it but since they sent it to speedo shop and paid them out of their pocket- they wont give me any $ back. I told them that I never authorized for them to send it to the speedo shop- so its not my fault you are out the $100 bucks. I paid you $130 and I still have a messed up car!
I called the dealer and they said to bring it in and have it diagnosed. I already have!
It beeped and did the gauge up down thing MANY times today- im totally at a loss!

My friend at this point, if the pressure is ok on a gauge, it can be onlty the sender, or the gauge, or a bad wire between the two. Me I would put in a real honest to goodness pressure gauge, and be done with it, you want to fix what in the industry, we call an IDIOT light?
