2002 Ford Explorer O/D light

I am not sure what this mean, but this morning my car while OD light came on and the RPM's had a hard time getting up to 3 this morning and would stick when I eccelerated.
My husband is away and I hate taking my car to the dealer not knowing what and how it should properly work
Please help if you can

Pamela:
The flashing OD light indicated there is a trouble code stored in the vehicle's computer. The only way to identify it is with a scanner. Many of the parts stores will scan it for free, but call ahead because many don't have the correct scanner for reading trans codes.
