There are a couple issues with this. First if the light came back on then the issue is not resolved so we are not going to be able to just clear the code. We are going to have to fix the issue so the light will turn off.
Next if you do clear the code and not fix it then you are going to have what is called a P1000 code. This is nothing more than telling the emissions testing places that the codes were recently cleared, and the monitors have not passed yet to ensure there are no issues.

People used to always just clear the codes and then pass emissions when there are no codes, and it was a way to game the system so the government made the OEMs to put this code in place so that they couldn't be tricked any more.
