I have replaced the fuel pump 4 times over the 220k miles. I have installed an external fuel pump. A fuel pressure gauge after the pump shows large swings in pressure with engine RPMs also changing. If I clamp the output of the electric fuel pump the pressure is 65 psi. I cant find a FPR. I have a single fuel line from the gas tank. What is cousing this variation in fuel pressure? And how do I fix it. I saw similar fluctuation in RPM with the in-tank Fuel pump before it stopped working.

Hi Rodger22,

Thank you for the donation.

Seems fuel pumps for this model don't last very long.

FPR is intank with the fuel pump. With an external pump, the intank FPR is before the pump so fuel rail pressure is not regulated and can result in engine rpm fluctuation.

Were the 4 pumps you mentioned all external or was it the intank pump?
