Accelorating on the freeway, gunned the engine to speed up to traffic speed, check gage came on. Noticed engine was running hot. Also slow studder in acceloration shifting into 2nd gear. Since the car runs hot after a couple minutes of running. Wondering if it's thermostat or trans problem? thanks for input!

i would change the thermostat and make sure the radiator level is full. the next step would be to check if the cooling fans are running also.
