My tensioner broke on the timing chain and before i take it apart to fix i was told i need to know i the valves got scattered.? when it broke i had just started it, it ran for 3 seconds and died. would the motor be ruined and would it be a waste of time to take apart if so.?

It isn't listed as an interference engine, so you should be okay.
