Transmission problem
2000 Ford Explorer 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Manual

2000 Ford Explorer which is not moving forward when the clutch is engaged and it is in gear. Also the gears can be changed while the clutch is disengaged and the engine is running. Any ideas?

With the engine off and the the trans in gear, does it engage in gear so you can't move the car?

Let me know.

Didnt seem to be engaging. We had it towed and when they pulled it off the truck it was fine. The mechanic took it for a drive no probs! He thought somehow the gearbox had got knocked into neutral or something. Anyway drove it home and then went for a bit of a drive and as it was going up a hill the gear slipped and it appears the clutch is gone. Luckily the mechanic drove past and was able to help out! Waiting for a full diagnoses this week!

If it jumped out of gear, if you shut the engine and put it in gear, does it hold or does it still seem to be in neutral? If neutral, chances are the transfer case is having an issue going into neutral and nothing with the trans.

Let me know.

Hmmm. Not sure about that one! I do know that the mechanic was able to drive it again this morning after it failed yesterday! Very strange indeed! Will let you know what he says when he looks at it today! Thanks for your help!
