I'm getting some conflicting information when I want to change the brake pads on a 2000 Ford Explorer. Can I use C clamp to depress the pads/calipers in order to remove the old pads? Then do I need the caliper reset tool once I install the new ones? I just bought this vehicle so I haven't done this before on this model. On my other cars I just used a C clamp; put the new pads in and then pump the brake pedal to restore the pressure. I just wanted to find out if that is the same process. Thanks.

I've used a C-clamp to push the piston back into the caliper without any problems. I recommend using the old pad against the piston to help apply even pressure when using a C-clamp. Then as you have done before, just pump the brake to restore pressure. I've done the fronts 3 times and the backs once the way you are describing and have not had any problems.
