2000 Ford Explorer 4 wd unit

Transmission problem
2000 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I can not get the 4wd unit out of 4wdlow. I turn the knob to 2wd and it stays in 4wdlow

First step is to check for "B" codes, can be the switch, actuator or GEM module.

This will probably be the transfer case shift motor on the back of the transfer case. It seems to be when the motor goes bad it goes in 4x4 low the light blinks and then stays in 4 low. You can buy these at you local parts store or a wrecking yard. Hope this is helpful.
