1999 Ford Explorer howling noise

When the car gets hot and at a idle a howling noise comes from the area of the mass air flow sensor. The noise does not happen when car is moving. At idle it is sometimes very loud

remove the serpintine belt see if it still howls. if no sn idler pulley power steering pump or alternator has a bad bearing..
