1999 Ford Explorer V6 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 52,000 miles
When starting this newly aquired low milage vehicle, the engine idle varies in rpm, till it warms up, then it runs great.

Have the engine coolant temperature sensor, throttle position sensor, and the idle air control valve check.

I had a simialr problem. Changes the idle air control valve, throttle psotion sensor adn mass air flow senosr. Helped a little but didn't solve the problem.
Tunred out to be a vaccum line had come disconnected.
