1998 Ford Explorer Timing Chain

I found a piece of the timing chain guide inside my oil pan when I replaced the oil pan gasket. Should I be concerned that the timing chain will break and ruin my motor? There are no noises,rattles, or difference in the performance. It should be replaced. It could cause other problems with the chain / components.
