Hi,
I have a ford explorer that has alot of miles on it. 170,000 miles on it.
When I start my suv first thing in the morning it makes a noise that I am concern about. To me is sounds like its not getting oil for the first couple of seconds while I am cranking it over. It sounds like a knocking noice. I have also notice that it takes a couple of seconds before the oil gauge jumps to the normal position. I am no mechanic but I am thinking it something to do with the oil pump.

What do you think?
Is this easy to check or to fix?
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Knocking sounds on cold start is either a connecting rod bearing or wrist pin. It quits down sometimes when the oil reaches it!
