My check engine light came on so I took my car to my mechanic. He has had the car for 3 days (today is the 4th). He replaced the "oxygen sensor" believing this was the problem. It did fix the problem. Now he is telling me the entire computer may have to be replaced.
Does this sound like a possibility? He said he was still checking all the wires.
Do you know about how much something like that costs?

Hello
Thanks for the donation.

An estimate for replacing your vehicle's body control module is around $400.

Check engine lights can illuminate for almost ANY little issue on newer vehicles these days. Most of the time, it isn't even a cause for concern because the component that is setting off the light is sometimes not even necessary. You might want to ask the mechanic why exactly you need the computer replaced. If the vehicle was/is running and starting fine then the computer is more than likely in good working condition.

A bad BCM (body control module) will usually result in a no start situation. It will fail to send signals necessary for the vehicle to start and/or stay idling.

Hope this helps..
