1998 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Hi, pretty much flip the ignition it dies if I let go, I can keep it running by revving the engine, it dies if I dont. I doesnt idle. Can I switch into gear while revving?

Has the check engine light come on? Also, you if you can keep the engine running at a low RPM (under 1200 RPM's) you can shift it into gear.

Let me know about the check engine light.
