Engine Performance problem
1997 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual 178 k miles

Hi,
I have been a volvo owner for over 13 years and it is not uncommon for a volvo to run up to 500,000 miles or more on the original engine. I am looking at buying a 1997 ford explorer sport. It is a 1 owner vehicle and it appears that it was well cared for. It has 178,000 miles on the engine and I am wondering if it is at the end of it's life. Can a Ford go up to 200k or 300k?

What kind of things should I look for? Or what questions should I be asking?

Thanks for your help.

It can go 250K+. Make sure the oil has been changed on a regular basis, open the oil fill cap and look inside to see if it looks clean.

Keep in mind, the engine may run a lot longer, but other things wear out.
