1.4 years ago, the transfer case went out in the explorer. We found a shop to fix it (cost $900). Today, not only does it sound like the transfer case is completely broken, but we cannot get it in and out of gear successfully. Seems the transmission is bad. With 105K miles, is it worth it to fix? We are the original owners and have had some issues throughout the years, and are thinking to just scrap it and buy another used car for our son. Thoughts?

If the vehicle is in good condition, I (personally) would repair it. Since you are the original owners, you truly know the condition of the car. If it is in good condition, fix it because the trans will be around 2000 to fix, and you can't buy much for that amount. Honsetly, 105K is low mileage by today's standards.

Let me know if you have other questions.
