Hi, My explorer has been working great up to today, when she decided to rev by herself up to 2,500rpm in drive, then when I managed to switch her off, and restart her, she revved up to 6,000! After a short cooling off period, restarted again and drove the 1.5 miles home almost normally! Any ideas please?

Possibly the Idle Speed Control (ISC) motor stuck open. Also check your linkage both inside the car and at the engine. It could be that your linkage stuck as well.
