1997 Ford Explorer Cannot put in park

I would say that something with the shift cable or linkage must be binding or the shift cable might be frayed and so it won't go all the way into park. If you haven't already I would look under the vehicle while someone moves the shifter and see what seems to be going on. I would also pull the center counsel to see what the shifter is doing there too.
