1997 Ford Explorer battery

Battery light is coming on inside car, voltage gauge is reading low. Battery is about 6 months old! Is the alternator bad? What's going on?

It sounds like the alternator. Take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them check the alt. They will be able to determine output with it on the car.
