Weather here was 7 degrees, 21 below wind chill. Go out and my 96 Explorer wont crank. Battery was 12.8 volts. So I started it with a screwdriver (touching the red lead connector and top large connector on the starter solenoid) with the key in the on position. So I figured fine, I'll replace the solenoid since I knew the starter was fine. I did replace it, but it still will not crank. Still can start it with a screwdriver, but not from the ignition. Does this mean I need a new ignition switch?

either you need a new ignition switch, new neutral safety switch, or you have a blown fuse or damaged wiring harness for the s+ wire of the solenoid
