I have a 1996 ford explorer. I'm pretty sure the shocks need to be replaced. Is this something that can be done on the side, or at home, or do I need to take itto a shop? I was also wondering about how much it should cost? What about a transmission flush?

If it is not equipped with the automatic ride control then you just jack up vehicle, support the lower control arm with a jack, remove the upper shock nut, washer and bushing. then remove 2 lower shock to control arm nuts. compress the shock and remove it. estimate is below for replacing your vehicle's shocks and tranny flush.
