1996 Ford Explorer gas

My gas meter works but it is not accurate, it will tell me I have eight gallons left but it runs out of gas before time to refuel.

Chances are either the float in the tank is sticking or there is a problem with the body control module. I would start by having the BCM checked so you don't have to remove the tank unless it is truly necessary.
