Noises problem
1996 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 200K miles

I HAVE NOTICED FOR THE PAST MONTH OR SO, THAT WHEN I DRIVE AT A CONSISTENT HIGH SPEED-IE 110km/h AND HIGHER, THAT A 'CYCLICAL' VIBRATION COMES AND GOES. IT HAS BECOME LOUDER IN THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS AND I BELIEVE IT IS COMING FROM THE FRONT END. AND SEEMS TO COME THRU THE FLOOR PAN. ITS NOT NOTICEABLE THRU THE STEERING, JUST SEEMS TO COME FROM THE FLOOR FRONT AREA. I DID TAKE IT IN TO HAVE THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED AND BEEN TOLD VARIOUS THINGS. I HAVE FITTED NEW TYRES, REPLACED THE FRONT WHEEL HUBS AND REPLACED ALL BRAKE PADS THE VIBRATION COMES ON GRADUALLY, PEAKS AT A LOUD VIBRATION AND THEN GRADUALLY CYCLES DOWN TO QUIET, AND THEN COMES AGAIN. IT IS VERY REGULAR, AND ONLY NOTICEABLE AT THE HIGHER CONSISTENT SPEEDS. ANY IDEAS?

There is a TSB on Explorer's for a vibration at wide open throttle, could be your problem, check for this label to see if this work has been done...5.0L - VIBRATION AT WIDE OPEN THROTTLE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN Reference Number(s): 96-17-21,  Date of Issue:  August 12, 1996 Related Ref Number(s): 96-17-21 ARTICLE BEGINNING VIBRATION - WIDE OPEN THROTTLE (WOT) BETWEEN 4000 AND 5000 RPMS - 5.0L VEHICLES WITH AWD BUILT THROUGH 4/29/96 APPLICATION Model(s): 1996 Ford Explorer 1997 Mercury Mountaineer Bulletin No.: 96-17-21 Date: August 12, 1996 ISSUE A vibration may be noted during hard acceleration (WOT) with engine rpms between 4000 and 5000. ACTION Use the following procedures based on vehicle build dates to install an automatic transmission-to- transfer case brace and/or reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The brace will add stiffness to the transmission-to-transfer case interface and reprogramming the PCM will change the transmission shift speeds. Refer to the following SERVICE PROCEDURE for details. SERVICE PROCEDURE VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 3/11/96 1. Install a transmission-to-transfer case brace kit. 2. Refer to the Instruction Sheet included in the kit for installation details.
