Transmission problem
1995 Ford Explorer Automatic

The first thing to happen was my speedometer just started going crazy and then quit. A few days later, as I was going down the road, it just rev'd up to 5000rpm, then back down to regular, then back up and just repeatedly does this! The gauges will periodically just go crazy and I can't drive anywhere because one minute it will be fine and in just a split second it is up and down (the RPM gauge and the transmission). What is wrong with it!

Yes. It is like while the rpm's are up, it will not switch gears. Then all of a sudden it will change and then in that same minute race back up like the gear isn't changing again.

In the mornings when I get in there to go to work. It will be working just fine. The gauges and the transmission. About 15-20 min into my trip, the speedometer starts going crazy, the Overdrive light flashes on and off and the problem with the transmission starts. And the whole time, the o/d light is flashing on and off.

IF the OD light is flashing, I need you to have the computer scanned. THe fact that it is flashing indicated that the computer has a fault code stored. Have it scanned and it should identify where the problem is coming from. Something tells me it has to do with the torque converter or trans control module.
However, that is a guess at this point.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
