1995 Ford Explorer starting

i started the car went to the store...started fine...ran fine...came out of store cranked it and it kinda spuddered and went dead all lights and stuff work but it will not stay cranked it almost did but when i pressed the gas it died and made a poof sound and spuddered

Sounds like you may have lost a fuel pump. Need to verify this with a pressure gauge. At that mileage though I wouldnt be too surprised.
