1994 Ford Explorer 4X4

When I press the button on the dash for the 4x4 nothing happens. There is a light that is suppose to come on but it doesn't regardless of whether or not I am in park, neutral, moving or still. The light for the low range does nothing either. Are there some things that I could check?

The motor on the back of the transfer case has probably failed. Have a helper push the button while you listen underneath for the motor to run. Also check the electrical connector to see that it is fully plugged in, and that there are no wires pushed out of it.
