1993 Ford Explorer

I have a 1993 Ford Explorer that runs fairly well. Recently, the radio has started to fade in and out. Sometimes you can hear and then at other times you can hear nothing. This bothers me because I am a music fanatic. Is it the speakers or what? Help!

Sorry for the delay. You got three options. Antenna, power source, speakers.

If the fading in and out is across all four speakers consistently, you can rule that out. If its just one speaker or two inconsistently, then the speakers need to be replaced.

A weak power source would cause the entire unit to fade in and out (i.E. Lights would dim, button response is weak).

My guess is the antenna. If you pull your radio out (couple screws, pop off a few plastic parts) and on the back of the console. Bottom right I believe. You'll see a decently thick cable go into the unit with what looks like a 1/4" end. That's your connection to what comes from your hood. I'd start there and see what you find. It may just be something simple like the connection is loose. But the cable may need to be replaced and possibly the antenna itself. That's my suggestion.
