My car worked fine yesterday. But, when I got in the car this morning to crank it, the RPM revved way up, then dropped down to 100 RPM, then began making a whining noise, started sputtering and then stalled. It is even beginning to jerk when I am driving it, and when I come to a stop sign or red light, the cars stalls out. Any suggestions as to what it may be? It has a new battery and radiator, but someone suggested an Intake Air Control Valve. Would that make the whining noise and cause the engine to stall out suddenly? It also sounds like a hose that has a hole in it and as the pressure builds, it is pushing the air out. Almost like a hissing sound. Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

It sounds like a vacuum leak. Have you checked for leaks?

I took it yesterday to a local mechanic. The upper and lower intakes gaskets have to be replaced. Parts are cheap - $37.00, but the labor is what is expensive - $260.00.

Thanks for the reply to my question.

That would be the vacuum leak. I don't know your age, but I remember when parts would always cost more than the labor. I guess I'm just showing my age. Regardless, I'm glad the problem was identified, but sorry that it will cost that much to fix.

If you want to do it yourself, it really isn't that hard to do. Let me know and I can try to walk you through it as best as I can via the internet.

Take care and thanks for using 2carpros. Com.
