First, change the oil. Next, is the vehicle burning any oil? Is there any black smoke coming from the exhaust? Has the check engine light come on?

in response to Ur answer to my question....the smoke is white and it isn't burning any oil. I did change the oil and it runs better and the level is fine for the moment but I had done this before and after a period of time the level goes back up and you can smell the gas when you check the oil level on the dip stick and of course the oil is thin because the gas, I am assuming. The check engine light is not on. What weight and type of oil should I be using in this truck while I am having this problem until I can have it fixed?

Stay with what the manufacturer recommends as far as oil weight. The white smoke has me concerned. Usually, that is an indicator if a bad head gasket. Have you noticed the coolant level changing?
