I have a 1992 Ford Explorer with about 94,000 miles on it. I recently noticed that as I accelerate the car vibrates extremely, especially when getting on the freeway. I also noticed once I get up a certain speed, the vibration calms a bit, but sometimes starts right back up. After being on the freeway, the vibration calms once I get off, but it seems more like a delayed shaking, possibly that something isn't alligned correctly. I wanted to find out if anyone else has had this problem. If so, please let me know what you did to fix it.

Sounds like one of several issues.....Have the tires been rotated & re-balanced per spec's routinely?

If not, Good chance you need a front wheel alignment if the tire rotation and re-balancing does not change the symptoms, etc...

This is an inexpensive way to see if it is tire/wheel/ alignment related or if you have more serious issues (CV Joints, Tie-Rod ends, bushings, etc....)

Also, sometimes a brake issue (sticking) can, once in a great while, also be a factor, but I would would focus on the tires, balancing & alignments as first steps.

I have the same problem with my 93 explorer, the reason that the car is vibrating is beause the front bearings need to be "packed" with grease or bearings need to be replaced. Ford did not do a good job on design on front wheel bearings... so they need to be checked out every once and a while. It should clear up the problem; it does is with my explorer.[/code]

Ford is notorius for vibrations just refer to any consumer survey.
Vibrations such as your describing can also come from the drivetrain.
A Bad driveshaft support bearing aka carrier bearing for the driveshaft will cause exactly what your complaint is this feels more like a chatter in the drivetrain.
The other issue is it could very well be the rear differential. What happens is after a while everything gets loose due to normal or abnormal aging this allows the rest of the gears to come out of their specified tolerances hence causing vibration.
It sounds to me like that is your problem and be sure you get a good mechanic you can sometimes get a quick fix by torquing the rear yoke of the rear diff.
I WANT TO MAKE THIS KNOWN TO YOU DO NOT TURN IT WITH A WRENCH AND TIGHTEN.

I had 92 Ford explorer and I noticed at 65 vibration. I thought aqbout the problem and I removed that bar which is said to stabilize the care and shock absorbers. the vibration is even more. I thousgt that the resonance frequency is the problem. I imagine a solution and tomorrow I will implement.I wil inform you about the result. You can contact me at my email davidmuresan@live.com Think that I am an inventor. I have 7 nventions patented and 8 new ideas. One is a car engine without pollution and a better car differential which will engage all 4 wheels without having any problems of the presetn differetial.

I know the problem its your rotors mine did exactly the same thing I have 92 Ford Explorer XLT XLT I bought for $1,000 I put in probably about five thousand into it Transmission went out Brake system went out 3 times Drums to the back twice Rotors Starter MAF sensor New battery new tires And its still causing issues But not with the vibration My suggestion to you is Get away from the vehicle as quick as you can They just keep going out If you do the research on it There's been a lot of recalls for the issues that in the everybody experience Like the issue I'm having is a warm startup issue Then do research for three years and still can't figure it out
