Engine Mechanical problem
1992 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have an older model Ford Explorer. I am already aware that the vehicle has needed a tune-up, but I am thinking that this has definetly contributed to the problem now @ hand. The other day my wife attempted to start the vehicle at which time the veh. did start right away as it always does. ( the veh. has always started right up.) However after the veh. started she heard a sound resembling a moderate popping noise followed by the sound of a hissing( as though air was escaping from somewhere. Upon inspection I came across two small hoses that had somehow blown off either side of each other ( located at the top of the engine) When the veh. was once again started it woud still immedietly start but would cut off if I took my foot off the gas. I then attempted to plug the two loose holes where the hoses had come off with my finger to which the engine would stay on unless I removed my finger from either side. I than took some plastic fastners and attempted to reattach both the hoses back on there respective spots to temporarily reattatch them. This worked as to keep the engine on without cutting off but now the engine seems to have lost at least half of it's acceleration power. Engine also seems to have gotten louder. Still starts right up though. I really have very minor auto mechanic skills and am not really familar with the parts and function of an engine. Could someone please give an idea of what it maybe that is causing this and why. And what I could do to maybe alleviate this problem. Thank you very much.
