I am trying to get my explorer up and running. It has been sitting for a year and a half. I have replaced oil, filter, coolant and have a new battery to put in it. My question is the gas. I have half a tank of gas in it and friends tell me I have to drain it all and put new in there. That is a lot of gas and not sure what I would do with it all. Do I really need to do that or should I fill the tank with new gas to mix with it? Add an additive to the gas?

If it has been 18 months, chances are it will still run the vehicle; however, it may not run too well. I would try it first to see how it goes. Run it out if you can and then you will notice improvement with the new gas. As far as an additive, there isn't anything to fix old gas. Adding more to it should help. Before adding, see if it will run with that gas. If it does, add some new to it.

Let me know if you have other questions.
