Transmission problem
1987 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

i'm looking at buying a friends 97 explorer, the tranny shifts fine, has 166,000 on it, about 40 mph if you let off the gas it makes a grinding noise. But when you hit the gas again it runs fine. This is a very well maintaned car, the tranny fluid looks great? Any suggestions.

Hi there,

This will need to be inspected first hand by a transmission specialist, but for my money any grinding noise coming from the transmission spells big repair bills, go get an opinion first, this is something that really needs to be heard and tested first hand.
